Duckling Day Parade
As one of Boston’s greatest family traditions, the Duckling Day Parade offers fun for the whole family for an affordable donation of $25 per family. This includes snacks, entertainment and a small ducky toy for each child. Registration begins at 10 a.m. on Boston Common. Then, families are led down the path that Mr. and Mrs. Mallard took in the children’s book, “Make Way for Ducklings.” After admiring the Public Garden during your walk, which is led by the Harvard Marching Band, you’ll reach Mallard Island for pictures with real mallards!
Lilac Sunday
Is it a coincidence that lilacs always bloom just in time for Mother’s Day? This year, take advantage of the beauty and aroma of lilacs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Arnold Arboretum. Pack a picnic, because this Sunday is the only day when picnics are allowed! Not only will a picnic save you big bucks at a local brunch buffet, but it also allows your family to bond on a more personal level and surrounded by nature!
Wine & Chocolate
Start your Mother’s Day celebration early at the Wine & Chocolate Mother’s Day Class and Dinner on May 7 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For $100, those ages 21 and up can enjoy a fancy dinner with more than six samplings of chocolates and six wine samples at the Boston Wine School. This event, perfect for older children looking to bond with their parents over a glass of wine, takes care of an event, a gift and dinner all in one!
SoWa Open Market
Every Sunday afternoon, with Mother’s Day as no exception, enjoy Boston’s biggest outdoor art and indie market, SoWa. Showcasing artists and designers, musicians, a farmer’s market and antiques, there is something for everyone here. If you still need to buy mom a present, take her to the market and let her pick out her own!
Brunches
If you’re a fan of tradition, find a local brunch buffet to enjoy as a family. Aura Restaurant in the Seaport Boston Hotel is hosting a buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., which includes all of your breakfast favorites, shrimp cocktail, clam chowder, lobster bisque, honey glazed ham, sirloin and more. A craft station will be provided for kids to enjoy!
After the Duckling Parade, head right into the Ritz-Carlton for their brunch, with seating at 11:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Live music and children’s activities pair nicely with the array of raw and smoked seafood, salads and appetizers, traditional breakfast items, dessert and the cookie decorating station.
If you really want to go all out for mom, book a cruise on the Odyssey. Two-hour cruises depart at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., featuring a flower for mom, complimentary glasses of champagne or mimosas, free juice and soda bars for children, a balloon artist, live music and a large selection of appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts.
