6 Mother’s Day Events Coming Up in Boston, MA!

As a mother in Boston, MA, how do you plan to celebrate your special day? Whether you’re in the mood for an outdoor parade, a relaxing picnic or a fancy brunch, there is a plethora of Boston events to choose from. Here are six Mother’s Day events to choose from in Boston,MA:

1. For Mother’s Day, want to just sit back and relax to some peaceful, beautiful music? The Waltham Symphony Orchestra presents a Mother’s Day Concert with acclaimed cellist Allison Eldredge. Head to the Kennedy Middle School Auditorium on Saturday, May 11, at 8 p.m. and be swept away by these peaceful tunes. 
2. On May 12, head to Boston Common at 10:30 a.m. to preregister for the annual Duckling Day Parade! Entertainment will be provided until the parade starts at noon. Dress your child up as a duck or the color yellow for the parade that retraces the path taken in the children’s book, “Make Way for Ducklings.” Each child will receive snacks and a duck toy.
3. Lilac Sunday takes place at the Arnold Arboretum every year on Mother’s Day! Tons of lilac bushes burst to life just in time for moms to enjoy them with their families. Plus, Mother's Day is the only day of the year that picnics are allowed at the arboretum, so pack a blanket and food and find a patch of grass to gather on! Activities and refreshments take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day. 
4. Mother’s Day brunch is a popular tradition for many families. Restaurants across Boston, MA feature a special brunch for this special day, but since they fill up quickly, making reservations is a smart move! Some options this year include Brasserie Jo at the Colonnade Hotel, UpStairs on the Square for a three-course prix fixe brunch, Scampo in the Liberty Hotel, Top of the Hub for brunch or dinner, and North 26.  
5. Forget to get a Mother’s Day gift? Bring her to the SoWa Open Market in Boston’s South End on Sunday! That way, she can choose her own gift while you both can scope out the farmer’s market, live entertainment, food trucks, antiques, local crafts and more. This takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.! 
6. Need some new wall art for your Boston home? Head to the ArtWalk at Fort Point, which happens only twice a year! All of the artists open their studios to the public, so you can find the perfect painting, sculpture, photograph or other type of art. This takes place all weekend, Friday through Sunday.  The next Art Walk isn’t until October, so don’t miss it!

5 Reasons to Love Boston, MA!

Are you thinking about moving to the Boston, MA area? Did you just move here and are wondering what to check out? As your Boston real estate agent, I’ll be the first to admit there are so many reasons to love Boston! From historic sites to famous clam chowder, Boston has become the place I live, work, appreciate and love. To help you understand what makes Boston, MA great, I’ve created a list. Rich History. The entire New England coast is rich with history. Boston alone contains the oldest restaurant in the nation, the Union Oyster House, the first subway system in the country, and the nation’s oldest public park, Boston Common. It houses a lot of firsts. Significant moments in history took place here in Boston, such as the Boston Tea Party and the Boston Massacre. Tons of history tours are available to Boston, MA visitors and residents, which stop at sites like the Massachusetts State House, King’s Chapel, Boston Light, Bunker Hill Monument, Old State House and so many more. Fourth of July and St. Patrick’s Day. Boston is known for celebrating all holidays with full-fledged festivals and events that draw thousands of visitors. St. Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest, with a giant parade and festival, and Fourth of July if the other. The celebration includes an 1812 Overture, complete with canons, performed by the Boston Pops. That evening, the city enjoys a long, dramatic display of fireworks. Boston is, after all, called the Cradle of Liberty. We’ve got to celebrate that liberty!

Sports. Boston has a lot of sports teams to be proud of. The Boston Red Sox play baseball in Fenway Park, which celebrated its 100th birthday this year! People flock to Boston. MA to experience baseball in a historic ballpark. Not only that, but the Red Sox broke the “Curse of the Bambino” in 2004 with a World Series Championship, and then did it again in 2007! The New England Patriots are our NFL football team, doing well this year. They play at Gillette Stadium near Boston, MA. Our Stanley Cup Boston Bruins are the icing on the cake!

Fame. Massachusetts is a state to be proud of. It’s continually known for having the best schools in the country, with fourth graders and eighth graders ranking best in nation on reading and math scores in the National Assessment of Education Progress in 2011. As far as jobs go, it is the third best area in the country for job growth right now. Boston is also known for its abundance of seafood cuisine, such as New England clam chowder, and for its Irish pubs. We can’t forget, also, that Bostonians are famous for their Eastern New England accents!

Boston Real Estate. According to a Trulia report, the average price per square foot for a home in Boston increased 7.2 percent, compared to this time last year. Home sales increased by 1.4 percent. In Zillow’s Home Value Index, Boston, MA home values are the highest in the region and are up 9.3 percent from last year. The inventory of homes for sale decreased recently, which is common during the winter months, but there are still great homes available to buy in Boston right now. With asking prices up, it’s a great time to sell!
